Some have been good and some bad, but Kia has hit the spot for pitching its products at exactly the right level.Indeed, Kia's bargain offering at a lower level, the Rio, is akin to the Ford Escort reborn - simple but very effective.And the same applies to Magentis - there's a bit of the old Cortina in there if you relax and take in the atmosphere.Magentis is an honest, no-nonsense car. It makes no boasts other than ease of ownership and a degree of cruising refinement for its low cost. It looks smart enough and does exactly what it says on the tin.If you are looking for excitement you may be disappointed, but if you want a capable everyday saloon Magentis has a lot in its favour.Powered by a 134bhp, two litre, four-cylinder engine, the Magentis is a reasonable performer with a surprisingly impressive ride quality.In looks it has an almost Mercedes-like front end and is one of the models heralding the return of chrome trim, which looks particularly appealing in this case.Practical ideas include a 60-40 split rear seat for carrying larger loads, with access to the boot being via a remote switch.Passive safety is high on the list of features which list seatbelt pretensioners and driver and passenger airbags. One good idea is a sensor in the passenger seat to detect whether or not it is occupied, thereby preventing unecessary deployment of the airbag.Braking performance is sophisticated with ABS and a brake force distribution system.ISOfix child seat anchor points are standard, as are bumpers that can absorb a five miles per hour impact. Many cars have bumpers that can handle just 2.5mph.This is the only model fielded in the Magentis range apart from its automatic transmission version. Report this review I have a 1.8 petrol which flys through the mot, starts every time, had to get starter motor fixed at 69000 £80 but far less problems than my friends have with scenics. Report this review I have the carens 2.0litre diesel automatic 7 seat LS CRDi model. It is very reliable,comfortable and has plenty of cabin space. the only thing I don't like is the foot operated parking brake but being an automatic gearbox their is one pedal less to worry about! I would certainly buy another one and have no hesitation in recomending it to anyone. My previos car was a Nissan X-Trail and apart from the 4 wheel drive on the Nissan the Carens beats it in all areas. We have travelled through France with the car clocking up nearly 600 miles in one day with very little of the usual aches and pains that one normally receives from other cars. The car has good economy for a vehicle of it's size, generally it is a very cost effective car when compared to other models in it's range.
