Kia XS for sale
| | 2008 KIA SORENTO XS RED .
I believe the Sorento won caravan club tow car of the year on multiple occasions. There has been one previous owner, the garage that pre-registered it. ...> I purchased it with only delivery mileage and have had it serviced by the main agent and there is a full service history. I bought it in May 2009 and had the tow bar and electrics fitted before purchase. There is less than 25,000 miles on the clock and it is in good condition all round. It is reluctant sale, but the only trailer I have towed behind it can be towed by virtualy any other car. It has not been taken off road other than into a flat field used as a car park. I have to be sensible and let someone buy her, to use for what she is designed to do. X

I previously drove a 2002 Nissan Primera 2.2 Diesel SVE Estate which we used to tow our caravan. We sold our caravan in June this year and have been looking to buy a new one since. With caravans, newer tends to mean heavier and the caravans we where looking at where putting us over the 85% rule for the caravan to car weight ratio. I've always fancied a 4x4 and especially the Kia Sorento. The higher running costs such as the more expensive road tax and drop in fuel economy put me off. That was the head thinking mind, the heart always wanted one. When however I realised that I needed a heavier tow car in order to tow whatever new caravan we would buy, that swayed it and the heart and head finally agreed. I looked at countless Sorentos before making my purchase. My reasons for not buying other ones included one being way to overpriced (the seller was looking to recoup the cost of installing nudge bars all round) and another was advertised at a good price but when I went to look at it, it had numerous scrapes/dents on it and one of the rear light clusters was broken. When I first saw the one I ended up buying, it was love at first sight, not a mark anywhere on her. The previous owner had obviously loved her as much as I plan to and after taking her out for a test drive, I paid my deposit and picked her up two days later. So ... what does this car say about me? I guess it says I'm not to image conscious and like to get value for money. While Kia doesn't have the same brand image as the likes of the Mercedes M Class, Volvo XC90 or Landrover Discovery, the Kia Sorento has certainly attained a reputation as being a reliable no nonsense well equipped 4x4. Mine would have cost me £25,095 new. I picked it up with 32k on the clock for £12,250 from an independent dealer. The dealer also took my Primera off my hands and offered me £400 more for it than any other dealers had. In my books, I got an absolute bargain and I look forward to many years of trouble free motoring. Naturally when you buy a new car, you have to go round and show it off to all your friends and family and I have been no different in this regard. Everyone loves the colour (Sport Blue) and have commented on the masses of space inside and equipment levels. Some who have test driven it have never driven an automatic car before and they loved it. The auto box is silky smooth! So, what's she like to drive. Like I said, the auto box is silky smooth. You are aware of it changing up through the gears but not down. The box also has a triptonic function which means if you want, you can flick her across and over-ride the auto box, selecting the gears yourself. I can see this being useful in say the likes of snowy conditions where you may want to start off in second gear or when going downhill etc. when towing a caravan. Dimension wise, with never having owned a 4x4 before, it took a while to get used to the size of her. Yes, she is a big car at 4.57 metres long and 1.86 metres wide. Now I'm used to the dimensions, I can throw her about like the best of them. That leads me onto handling. On motorways she drives like a dream, very comfortable and if conditions permit, you can throw on the cruise control and relax a little. At motorway speed there is hardly any noise intrusion into the cabin and the 138bhp 2.5 litre diesel engine can make swift progress, despite the vehicles 2059kg kerb weight. By the same token, the brakes are effective at bringing her to a standstill. On country roads she's not just as refined. You are most definitely aware when you have run over a pothole etc. as the sensation of doing so is vibrated through, into the cabin. Don't get me wrong, this isn't especially annoying of uncomfortable, it's just that you seem to be more aware of same, when compared to other vehicles. I suspect this may be because of the larger 18" wheels and low profile tyres that are fitted to her and the fact that she is fitted with self-levelling suspension. Yes, the wheels and tyres look great and the self-levelling suspension is great for towing but maybe not so great when riding solo. The steering is nimble and responsive, if perhaps a little light. Personally I would like a little more feedback through the steering wheel which the Sorento does not give. Like I say though, that's just my personal choice. The indicators are on your right and window wipers on your left which is 'back to front' from every other car I've ever driven. Takes a little getting used to, I've already cleaned my windscreen when trying to flash my headlights at people and indicated when trying to clear my windscreen! Parking ... for such a big yoke, thankfully I've had no problems when parking it. This is partly due to the rear parking sensors which are fitted. Visibility is good out all four sides of the vehicle. Running costs ... the only running cost so far has been diesel. The Sorento will return approx. 30mpg if driven sensibly. The C02 emissions for this vehicle are 223g/km which puts it into tax band F at the minute £210 per year and from 2009 tax band K, £300 per year and from 2010, £310 per year. While this certainly isn't cheap, it would be a lot worse had the emissions been over 225g/km. So what's it like inside? Well, the boot is huge! I have three german shepherd dogs and they can all pile in no problem. I bought a rubber mat for the boot to protect the carpet when they're in and all I have to do now to make it fully dog proof is buy a dog guard. The rear seats will seat three comfortably with all rear seat passengers having an over the shoulder seat belt each as opposed to the middle one getting shafted with a waist belt. There are two cup holders in the rear at the back of the arm rest and a 12v power supply to power up any games/toys to keep the kids amused. In the front of the cabin, the electric heated leather seats are glorious. No more do I end up with numb buttocks after a long drive! There's also plenty of storage up front with wide door pockets to accommodate maps etc, there's a storage box under the front passenger seat along with other numerous nooks and crannies. Everything is well put together with no rattles squeaks etc. You can also feel safe inside ... with a Euro NCAP rating of 4 out of a possible 5 stars for adult occupation protection and isofix seats in the rear to help secure any young ones. What's my favourite toy? Well, the XT model is the top of the range model which like I say, comes equipped with all the toys. I could spend forever listing them but of the bunch, my favourites would be:- 1) Cruise Control 2) Rear Parking Sensors 3) Leather Seats 4) Electric Seats 5) Heated Seats 6) Electric Sunroof 7) Climate Control 8) CD Player with Sat Nav 9) Split Opening Tailgate 10) Doors automatically lock 11) Rear Tinted Windows. As I said, I could go on for ages but those listed would be my favourites. So to sum up the Sorento, it is a no nonsense, value for money, reliable, economical, practical 4x4 with a high kerb weight which will let you tow most caravans. If you're thinking about buying one and your heart is in it but your head is wondering about the higher running costs compared to an Estate/MPV if, like me you can get your head and heart to agree then go for it and happy motoring! ... less SgtZara 22.09.2008 (28.09.2008) Ciao members have rated this car review on average: very helpful Review of Kia Sorento XS Reliability Safety Spaciousness Comfort Road Handling Customer service Security Looks Features Fuel consumption Fantastic value for money and a real working car Advantages: Price, power, towing ability, gadgets, economical Disadvantages: County set cannot get used to the badge and are sniffy ...which kept cutting out. Request Brochure Test Drive Best Deals This is the second test we've published on the revised-for-2008 Sportage ; regular readers will recall the first one, but if you want a refresher, or if you've popped in for the first time, you can read it here . The version we're looking at on this occasion is very similar to the last one. Both have the two-litre turbo diesel engine and have the mid-range XE trim level. But there are two major differences - for a start, this one has four-wheel drive, whereas the last one had the front-drive only set-up which has just been introduced to the Sportage. Against all apparent reason, the 4WD is only £200 more expensive, and has superior performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions. The solution to this conundrum is that the front-wheel drive car is available only with a four-speed automatic gearbox, while this one has a six-speed manual. It still seems strange to me that there isn't a 2WD manual option, but that's how it is, at least for the moment. Unless you really want the automatic transmission, this car makes a lot more sense, mostly for financial reasons. Mind you, I've been surprised to find that the Sportage can give the impression of being substantially more expensive than it really is. A friend who saw the test car immediately assumed that it cost about the same as her Land Rover Freelander, which is very far from being the case: the cheapest Freelander costs more than £20,000, significantly more than even the 2.7-litre V6 petrol Sportage (which, whatever its merits, is unlikely to be given a second glance by many potential customers in the UK). That friend lives on a farm a mile or so up a steep and eyebrow-raisingly rough track. She likes the Freelander, but on that track she would do as well with the Sportage, which can easily cope with that sort of thing and more, if not as much as a Land Rover. When I visit her in most cars it takes me several minutes to get to her front door, but the Sportage zipped up in about half the usual time. The Sportage's off-road ability is as good as it needs to be for the purposes of most buyers. Its on-road behaviour is even more impressive. Every road test I've written about the current-shape model has included some exclamation about how good the ride is on tarmac, and between Sportages I've occasionally wondered if this can really be true. But it is. Oh, there's enough body movement to make you aware that this is a tall, short vehicle, and there really isn't any way round that, but Kia's suspension people have done a magnificent job of making the Sportage absorb every kind of surface irregularity as smoothly and unfussily as possible. In this respect the Sportage is an exceptionally fine piece of work. The handling isn't quite as wonderful. Most of the time the Sportage grips the road fairly well, but if you're pushing on - especially in the wet - the front tyres gradually lose interest and you're liable to find yourself heading for the wrong side of the cat's eyes. The turbo diesel engine has enough power to take the rest of the car into uncomfortable territory, so you'd be well advised to take it easy through the bends if you're in a big hurry. In most driving situations, though, there are no problems at all, since once again the car seems able to ignore the pitfalls of its own shape. Kia has revised the suspension for 2008, but the combination of excellent ride and okay-but-don't-rush handling seems much the same as before. Similarly, all Sportages sold in Europe are now built in Slovakia rather than Korea, but that's an internal matter of concern to the company and not to the likes of you and me - the build quality is still perfectly acceptable, and not noticeably better or worse than it ever was. The Sportage is pleasant enough to live with. It must say something about the car (or, if not that, something else) that the thing which caused me most grief over the course of a week was the radio, which struggles more than most to keep hold of stations in areas of dubious reception, and for no obviously intelligent purpose resets itself to an inaudible volume setting every time you switch it on. I uttered several oaths and maledictions about this during the test, but any car whose worst feature is its radio can't be bad. Most people should be able to find a reasonable driving position, and there's decent enough room for all passengers. The presence of a rear axle means the boot floor is quite high - inevitable in a 4x4 - but that still leaves 667 litres when the rear seat is fully up and 1887 litres when it's fully down. Loading objects into the luggage compartment is made easier in tight situations by the fact that the rear glass can be opened independently of the tailgate; a good idea, if not a particularly new one, though if you're going to take advantage of it you'd better have light objects to load, since the bottom of the aperture is quite high up. As mentioned previously, the test car was in the mid-range XS trim level, which means it had protective body mouldings, climate control air-conditioning, cruise control, leather upholstery and some metallic-effect interior trim. None of this is available as standard in the XE, which costs £1500 less. The Titan, yours for a further £1300, comes with 17" alloy wheels, privacy glass, heated front seats, an electric sunroof, ESP, an underfloor cargo storage tray (good), a space-saver spare wheel (uh-oh), an auto-dimming interior mirror and a compass, among other goodies. Running costs should be reasonable for a car of this type, though the Sportage 2.0 CRDi can't quite manage 40mpg on the combined fuel economy cycle. That translates into 187g/km, which annoyingly enough puts it into the current VED Band F by just 2g/km and means you'll pay £40 a year more than if Kia had managed a slightly better result. Safety is a bit of a grey areas because Euro NCAP hasn't yet crash tested the Sportage, and I'm happy to say that I haven't either. Auto Express Car Reviews Text: Sam Hardy / Photos: Nathan Morgan November 2007 Rating: Demand for off-roaders is growing – but so are their price tags. With a top-spec Land Rover Freelander costing £34,000 and Ford’s forthcoming Kuga range starting at £20,000, where do you turn for a budget SUV? The answer is simple - Kia’s SportÂage. Since its 2004 launch, the com-pact 4x4 and its sister car, the Hyundai Tucson, have built up a small, loyal UK following thanks to their affordability. Now, the Sportage has benefited from a host of updates – so Auto Express got behind the wheel to see how the budget SUV shapes up. At £17,695, our 2.0-litre diesel XS model costs the same as before – and with entry-level 2WD versions starting at less than £14,000, the range is even better value. The SportÂage was never stylish, though, and this is something Kia has tried to address, introducing new headlights, a smoother front bumper and a fresh grille. The changes are welcome, although the tyres still appear rather undersized and the overhangs are heavy, so the Kia is awkward to look at. Inside, the seats are updated, with more cushioning up front, while the 60/40 split-folding rear bench is now mounted lower. Comfort is improved as a result, and although material quality isn’t as good as in the best European models, the car feels solidly put together, and is spacious. It’s also well equipped - all variants get six airbags and air-con, while our XS adds leather trim, plus climate and cruise control. A new flagship Titan model gets heated seats, tinted glass and an electric sunroof – although rather worryingly for a top-heavy off-roader, it’s the only version to be fitted with ESP stability control. Under the bonnet, the existing range of 2.0 and 2.7-litre V6 petrol engines and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel is carried over unchanged. But in a bid to improve the handling, the steering and suspension are revamped, while the brakes are now larger, too. Do all these changes work? Well, the Kia provides a comfortable rather than sporty driving experience. The steering is well weighted but vague, and body roll is reduced, although it’s still pronounced at high speed. Take things steady, though, and the suspension does a great job of soaking up bumps. Wind and engine noise is reduced as well, making the Sportage quite relaxing to drive. The engine is gutsier than the 12-second 0-60mph time suggests. In fact, with 305Nm of torque, it provides lots of overtaking punch, and returns around 40mpg, too. If only the six-speed box wasn’t so long winded – although an auto is now available for the diesel. With decent traction and ground clearance, the Sportage is also capÂable off-road. But the 4x4’s trump card is its warranty – Kia’s seven-year, 100,000-mile cover. Add that to the low price and you’ve got an SUV that doesn’t cost the earth to buy or run. Rival: Toyota RAV4 the RAV4 is brilliant to drive, with car-like handling on tarmac and decent off-road ability. Great build and rock-solid residuals also come as standard, so its popularity is no big surprise. Even with a long list of revisions, Kia’s Sportage is nowhere near as good as class-leading SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. But that’s not the point. The Sportage is so much cheaper than those models, it’s effectively in a class of its own. What’s more, it’s comfortable to drive, spacious and well equipped, plus it has an absolutely bulletproof warranty. It makes a great alternative to a regular family hatch, and brings 4x4 ownership within the reach of many buyers. Yes No View Results Search Kia Sorento 2.5 litre CRDi XS road test report 2.5 litre CRDi XS The Kia Sorento is the largest model currently in production from the Korean manufacturer, offering a huge amount of space to comfortably accommodate five adults and still hold plenty of luggage. All variants have the same meaty 2.5-litre turbodiesel at their heart which has plenty of grunt for the car to be a good choice for those wishing to tow a caravan or trailer. While the aesthetics are now starting to look dated the car remains a solid choice for people looking for a value-for-money 4x4 with bags of room inside the cabin. Kia Sorento lease prices Kia Sorento new and nearly new Performance The 2.5 Litre 168 Brake Horse Power engine in the Kia Sorento Is an absolute gem! With 392 NM of torque at 2000rpm it contains plenty of low down grunt when you need it and when operating at A-road or motorway speeds you find plenty of power available further up the rev range. As the Sorento is a genuine 4x4, the gearing is fairly low which can have an impact on the rev-meter when you are cruising at say 70-80 MPH but this car is nowhere near as compromised in this department as its contemporaries. Other vehicles of a similar size from ‘premium marques’ have larger 3 or even 4 litre engines to play with , the Sorento however operates in a completely different market and would be hard to beat in it’s sector. Ride & Handling The Sorento manages to keep body roll to a minimum. This is something which has often plagued the 4x4 market but the handling remains sharp and focused in the Sorento. We had the XS spec level for our test drive which had the comfort aids of leather interior, steering wheel and gearknob. There is also the entry level XE model, higher spec XT and top of the range Titanium model available. For a vehicle only mid way up the spec range we felt that the XS was very generously equipped. The seating position as you would expect was nice and high and visibility was virtually panoramic. Build Quality & Reliability As you would expect from a manufacturer offering 7 year warranties on a selection of it’s range the Kia certainly appears well built. We had no hint of problems in our 10 day road test. Soft touch materials are apparent in the cabin, with the dashboard being predominantly built with high quality finishes. The only hint of disappointment in the build quality is around the stereo facia, which is made using the same materials found in cheaper models in the Kia Range. The Sorento has the air of a robust vehicle which will be found motoring along for many years to come. Safety & Security All of the Sorento range has Anti-lock breaking system with Electronic brakeforce distribution and a Low ratio Gearbox. An active torque transfer system is available on all but the basic XE Specification with selectable four wheel drive capability. Full length curtain airbags are standard, along with driver and front passenger airbags. The Sorento even has a panic alarm facility to go along with remote central locking and engine immobiliser. You certainly wouldn’t expect this vehicle to come off second best in the case of a collision. Space & Practicality It is certainly possible to fit 4 adults plus their luggage into the Sorento without any issue at all. Being the size of vehicle it is the Sorento is a highly practical car with little luxuries such as heated front seats and leather upholstery being standard on all but the entry level XE Spec. Thanks to it’s low ratio gearbox and high torque engine the Sorento has a towing capacity of 3,500 Kg which is impressive in any range of vehicle! There are literally dozens of storage compartments within the vehicle such as those which can be found n the rear quarter panel and under the floor of the Cargo area. Ownership & Value The top of the range Titan spec Kia Sorento is now available from just £22,195! That is a lot of vehicle with a lot of spec for the money. Depreciation should not be too much of a feature as the Sorento is such value in the first instance. Contract Hire rentals appear to hover around the £259 per month level, which again for a vehicle of this type with this spec is great value. The majority of Sorento owners will no doubt look to keep the vehicle for as long as possible and get the most use out of the vehicle before changing again in a good few years time.
